The education task and finish group aim to address race disparity within the city relating to Education to be achieved by focusing on the following key priorities:

Academic Achievement

  • Understand the extent of underachievement of Black and Minoritised learners

  • Challenge the persistent underachievement of Black and Minoritised learners 

Special Educational Needs & Disabilities

  • Review the proportion of Black and Minoritised learners identified with special education needs, placed in specialist and/or Alternative Learning Provision

School Exclusions

  • Challenge the over-representation of Black and Minoritised learners in BCC exclusion data

Curriculum

  • Promote and encourage schools to develop and implement a ‘place base’/decolonised curriculum

Representation

  • Improve BAME teacher recruitment, retention, and development for leadership.

  • High quality culturally sensitive CIAG with clear career pathways

  • High quality culturally sensitive SEMH with clear pathways
